Specialists of the Kamchatka interregional veterinary laboratory revealed trichinosis in a sample of bear meat.

The basis for laboratory research was the quality and safety of products for personal use.

Trichinella are parasitic roundworms, helminths that live in the muscles, primarily in the muscles of a bear, wild boar and other wild animals. A person becomes infected with trichinosis after eating infected and poorly thermally processed meat.

For humans, trichinosis is dangerous with complications that can lead to death: myocarditis, severe damage to the lungs and central nervous system.

It is possible to determine whether the meat is infected or not only in the sanitary and veterinary service. Meat, semi-finished meat products and salted smoked products should be purchased only in stores, as they undergo a sanitary examination, the press service of the laboratory stressed.
