Laboratory testing for avian influenza in cattle is recommended in Russia.

These recommendations were prompted by reports of bird flu cases among dairy cattle in the United States , which prompted screening of domestic dairy herds in 22 Russian regions, particularly those importing cattle from three high-herdage countries. Currently, ROSSELKHOZNADZOR reports that antibodies and the virus genome have not been detected. As of October 25, bird flu has been detected in 14 US states, with the highest number of cases in California, Colorado, Idaho, Michigan, and Texas. In response, the FDA has tightened oversight of veterinary practices and treatments for infected cattle.
