The epizootic focus arose in the population of wild boars. The presence of the genetic material of the virus in the tissues of the deceased animal was confirmed by the protocols for examining samples of pathological material in a certified laboratory dated February 17.
The carcass of a wild boar was found in a forest. Veterinary services are taking the necessary measures to prevent the spread of the pathogen. Within a radius of five kilometers around the outbreak, there is not a single farm where domestic pigs would be kept, so there will be no need to confiscate livestock, said Stanislav Krushinsky, HEAD of the regional department of state veterinary supervision.
The first outbreak of ASF among wild boars was registered in Primorsky Krai in 2019. After quarantine measures, their population has decreased by more than three times. In January, the local government banned all types of hunting for this species of animals until 2025. The previous outbreak of ASF in the region was eliminated in the spring of 2022.
