Second outbreak of African swine fever found in Primorye in 2022

Quarantine will be introduced on the territory of the Partizansky district.

A focus of African swine fever was found in a forest in the Partizansky district of Primorye, the press service of the government of the region reports on Tuesday. This is the second case in 2022.

"A plague-infected wild boar was found in a forest 1 km from the village of Kirillovka, Novolitovsky rural settlement of the Partizansky district. There are no personal subsidiary farms within the threatened zone, and domestic animals will not be seized. This is the second focus of the disease since the beginning of the year," the report says.

Veterinarians carried out all the necessary anti-epizootic measures on the spot. In the near future, a 30-day quarantine will be introduced in the territory. Earlier, another infected wild boar was found in the forest of the Artemovsky urban district.

African swine fever was first registered in Primorsky Krai in the summer of 2019. In early December 2021, Alexei Surovy, HEAD of the department for the protection of wildlife in Primorye, told reporters that the number of wild boars, which serve as the main source of food for Amur tigers, had halved in the Far East due to African swine fever.
