
The focus of African swine fever (ASF) was recorded in the Omsk region for the first time since November 2020. According to the decree of Governor Alexander Burkov, quarantine has been introduced on the territory of the outbreak, which is located in Omsk, and in a 15-kilometer zone around.
“In connection with the discovery of a case of animal disease with African swine fever <…> I decide to establish restrictive measures (quarantine) <…> for a period until June 13, 2022 on the territory of the epizootic focus, <…> the threatened zone to a depth of 5 km from the borders of the focus, < …> observation zones to a depth of 10 km from the borders of the threatened zone," the governor's decree says.
The case of infection was detected in a personal subsidiary plot in the Oktyabrsky administrative district of Omsk. The territories of pig-breeding enterprises classified as III and IV levels of veterinary protection are excluded from the quarantine zone.
African swine fever is an infectious disease with an incubation period of up to two weeks, its carriers are infected or already recovered animals. As a rule, the virus enters the body through food, wounds on the skin, mucous membranes, insect bites.
The first outbreak of this disease in the Omsk region occurred in 2017. Then the outbreaks of the disease were registered in more than 40 settlements, including in Omsk. The number of pigs in the region decreased by 20.6 thousand. The quarantine in the last outbreak of ASF was lifted on November 10, 2017. Due to the detection of this disease in the Omsk region, the regional budget suffered damage in the amount of at least 230 million rubles.
Another case of infection was detected in November 2020. Then 329 animals were destroyed in three villages.
