In the Nizhny Novgorod region, 202 cattle burial grounds were liquidated in 2023

The HEAD of the Veterinary Committee of the Nizhny Novgorod Region, Mikhail Kuryumov, said that previously biothermal pits and cattle burial grounds were used for the disposal of biological waste. Such decisions impose restrictions on the use of adjacent lands; in addition, biothermal pits pose a potential threat to the HEALTH of people and animals.

“According to the new veterinary rules, the use of biothermal pits and cattle burial grounds is prohibited; now biological waste must be processed at veterinary and sanitary plants or burned in cremator incinerators,” explained the head of the veterinary committee.

Work to eliminate cattle burial grounds and biothermal pits began in 2018. During this time, 608 dangerous objects were eliminated. Biological safety in the territory where biopits are being eliminated is confirmed by laboratory tests and commission inspection.

“The liquidation of cattle burial grounds is carried out on behalf of the President and the Government of the Russian Federation. Funding for these purposes is allocated from the regional budget. In  2024 , work will continue; there are still 47 such facilities left in the Nizhny Novgorod region,” added Mikhail Kuryumov.

He noted that the work being carried out is of great importance for expanding the area of territories recognized as free from epizootic hazard factors during economic activities and survey work.
