
Sales of chilled pork and beef skewers in physical terms grew by 25% compared to the same period last year, follows from the analytics of Magnit Data, the data management service of the Magnit retailer. Demand for chilled kupaty and sausages grew by 37.1% yoy, MEAT in marinade (ribs, burger cutlets, steaks, etc.) — by 7%. Sales of poultry meat products grew at a faster pace. For example, the demand for chilled poultry meat in marinade increased by 45.1%, kupaty and sausages from poultry meat - by 79.2%, and barbecue from chicken meat of the retail chain's own production - by 53.8%.
In stores of large formats - supermarkets and superstores - sales of the grill assortment increased by 34%. The demand for the products of the network's own production more than doubled: kupaty, sausages, steaks, as well as poultry shish kebab and marinated poultry meat.
Traditionally, the leaders in the sales of the grill assortment are pork kebabs, marinated poultry parts, as well as sausages and kupaty from various types of meat. Grilled meat sales peak in the spring and summer months, but in recent years there has been an increase in demand for these products outside the usual picnic season. For example, in January 2023, compared to January 2022, sales of chilled barbecue increased by 18.3%. Surges in demand also occur during the gender holidays in February and March. Taking into account the increased supply in the Russian meat market, there is a trend towards a decrease in the average price for a grilled assortment.
Magnit analysts also noted an increase in demand for non-food picnic products: since the end of March, their sales have increased by 22.3% year-on-year. In particular, fire starters were sold by 32.6% more than a year earlier, barbecues - by 9.8%, barbecue sets - by 49.8%. In addition, in the food segment, sales of zucchini (by 27%), eggplants (46.2%) and sweet peppers (62.5%), vegetables that are most often used for cooking on fire, increased. Demand for fresh herbs also increased, with sales up 20.5% since the end of March.
