Work on breeding cloned cows on the farm began several years ago. The research was carried out by a highly professional interdisciplinary team, which included specialists in the fields of embryology, genetics, cell technology, veterinary medicine, animal science and engineering.
The first results were achieved in September 2022. Then it was possible to obtain the first clone embryo using Handmade Cloning technology, which is an alternative method of somatic cell nuclear transfer. The classical method of cell nuclear transfer to obtain cloned animals requires the use of expensive and complex equipment, including an inverted microscope and micromanipulators.
The innovative approach of the Handmade Cloning technique involves the manipulation of oocytes and embryos deprived of membranes to facilitate and speed up individual stages of cloning technology, which leads to higher fertility rates than using traditional cloning.
The use of Handmade Cloning radically reduces the cost of purchasing expensive equipment. In addition, the technology allows us to intensify the production process of obtaining cloned embryos and increase the efficiency of cloning technology in general. The most difficult thing was to achieve the viability of the individual and its successful gestation by a surrogate mother. As a result, a cow was cloned with record MILK production - almost twice as much as usual.
In addition, to confirm successful cloning, a genetic analysis was carried out at the Progress Agro base, in which the materials of the donor individual, clone and surrogate mother are sent to a special laboratory to confirm a complete match of the genome.
"Such successful experiments in the field of animal husbandry using the Handmade Cloning method have not yet been carried out in RUSSIA. The use of cloning will allow the company to implement strategic plans for breeding highly productive genotyped animals. Taking into account the fact that the genetic material of the record-breaking cow was taken as a basis, further development "This direction will provide a significant economic effect for the development of the enterprise. A donor cow produces 18 tons of milk per year, while a regular cow produces about 10 tons," said Progress Agro General DIRECTOR Leonid Ragozin.
The animals feel well and are under daily supervision of veterinary specialists. The widespread use of cloning technologies in agriculture will make it possible to create a population of the most productive and genetically valuable animals, producing the largest amount of milk or MEAT, resistant to infections and adverse environmental factors. This will improve the efficiency of livestock farming and will also help eliminate dependence on the supply of genetic material from abroad.
It is worth noting that the agricultural holding, which became one of the agricultural leaders in the South of Russia, was created in the early 2000s by the Russian industrialist and public figure, a native of the Ust-Labinsk region, Oleg Deripaska. Oleg Deripaska laid the basis for the agricultural holding on a long-term planning strategy based on constant improvements and investments in production and scientific development.
Despite the fact that the businessman left the company in 2018, it continues to develop successfully.
