A research and production center for the reproduction of farm animals was opened at the Kalmyk State University. Also this year, a bank of frozen embryos from fertilized eggs will be created in Kalmykia. For this, scientists use the material of specially selected bulls and cows, writes Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
it is specified that the regional Ministry of Agriculture allocated a grant in the amount of 30 million rubles for the creation of the center.
As the research and production center told the publication, the main goal is to improve the genetic quality of farm animals in RUSSIA and provide farms with good breeding material.
“For example, at least 10 thousand doses of semen can be obtained from one sire per year, although in natural conditions it, as a rule, “covers” only up to 70 sheep. By the way, the frozen material can be sent outside the region and for EXPORT,” the newspaper quotes Arslang Khakhlinov, DIRECTOR of the center for the reproduction of farm animals.
This year, three Dorper rams from Germany will be delivered to Kalmykia. In addition, in the breeding center of the Stavropol Territory, the center acquired four sires. More than 1.5 thousand sheep were inseminated with the material received from them in the farms of Kalmykia.
The material of specially selected bulls and cows will be stored in a bank of frozen embryos from fertilized eggs. Such a cryobank for livestock will be opened this year.
“An egg can be transplanted into any cow. Thus, she will act as a “surrogate mother” and bring high-quality offspring,” explained Arslang Khakhlinov.
According to him, under normal conditions, a cow brings up to two calves a year. However, through the use of embryos, more numerous offspring can be achieved.
“It happens like this: up to 40 embryos can be obtained from a cow, and then transplanted into recipients - animals of other, less valuable breeds. In this way, up to 40 breeding calves can be obtained from a breeding cow. And such embryos can be brought to any region and to any country,” the scientist said.
