The Cabinet of Ministers of the Russian Federation did not support the project on mandatory indication of the price per kilogram of goods

The bill was developed and submitted to the Duma by the Deputy Speaker of the House Boris Chernyshov (LDPR) in June of this year. Changes are proposed to be made to the law “On Protection of Consumer Rights”. According to the initiative, price tags for goods in stores must contain information about the price directly per kilogram or per liter of goods.

The Cabinet of Ministers indicated that the initiative proposed by the bill “will lead to an increase in the cost of the processes of displaying goods and making price tags and, as a consequence, to an increase in the final cost of goods for the consumer.”

“The Government of the Russian Federation does not support the bill,” the document says.

According to the author of the project, manufacturers often reduce the quantity or volume of goods, while maintaining packaging size and price.

“This phenomenon does not apply to marketing tools for stimulating consumers, since it does not lead to the goal of satisfying a need and is misleading to consumers,” the explanatory materials say.
