The state reference laboratory in Alget has confirmed outbreaks in 12 districts of the two provinces of Extremadura. In addition, the disease was found in livestock farms in Andalusia, Castile and León and Castile-La Mancha, the publication reports.

Epizootic hemorrhagic disease (EHD) is a transmissible infectious non-contagious viral disease of domestic and wild ruminants. Caused by a virus of the genus Orbivirus and commonly affects white-tailed deer, cattle ( bovine ), buffalo, goats and sheep. it is spread among ruminants by blood-sucking insects, therefore it has a seasonal character.

In cattle, the disease is characterized by symptoms such as fever, anorexia, dysphagia, malnutrition, ulcerative stomatitis, lameness, respiratory failure and udder redness. In white-tailed deer, it usually ends in death. It is not a zoonosis and does not pose a danger to humans.
