Creation of a new branch organization of pig breeding is planned in Belgium

In Belgium, it is planned to create a new branch organization of pig breeding. In view of the serious crisis in the pig industry, the two Belgian farmers' associations ABS and Boerenbond, as well as the Belgian MEAT Industry Federation (FEBEV) and the Belgian Feed Industry Association (BFA), intend to create an intersectoral organization. The associations announced this during a consultation meeting initiated by the Minister of Agriculture of Flanders, Hilde Krevits.

Krevits stressed that pig farming faces significant challenges in terms of production, marketing and sustainability. According to her, coordinated decisions are needed here, and each link in the marketing chain takes responsibility. “It is gratifying that the first steps towards closer cooperation have been taken,” the HEAD of the department concluded.

According to the information Internet portal "Wilt", in the second stage, other links in the marketing chain, such as meat processors and food retailers, will join the new organization. Important topics are the transparency of prices and production costs.
