The law on the ban on pig breeding in private farmsteads is not going to be adopted in Bashkiria. This was reported on February 10 by the press service of the state assembly of the region.
it is reported that members of the committee of the state assembly of the republic on agrarian issues, ecology and nature management studied the proposal of the union of MEAT producers and processors of Bashkiria to adopt a law that prohibited the breeding of pigs in private farms.
“We carefully studied the issue and came to an unequivocal conclusion: a total ban on pig breeding is out of the question. About 40 percent of the population of our republic lives in the countryside, and pig breeding is an old, traditional trade for many people. A strict ban seems redundant, especially since there are other highly contagious infectious diseases besides African swine fever. The ban on private pig breeding may have precedent consequences, and to follow this path means to violate the traditional way of rural life, ”the press service quoted the chairman of the republican state assembly, Konstantin Tolkachev, as saying.
It is noted that the republican regulatory legal framework for agriculture is aimed at supporting villagers and private livestock breeders. In this regard, this prohibition does not fit into the concept of agrarian legislation.
It is reported that reducing the number of pigs in private farms could reduce the risks.
“Perhaps we should take the path of state support for those personal subsidiary farms that are switching to alternative types of animal husbandry. This practice exists in the Leningrad, Samara, Yaroslavl, Oryol regions, Chuvashia and a number of other regions. This is an interesting experience worth analyzing. But, as in the case of any other dangerous diseases, veterinary control and informing the population should come to the fore. The private sector is particularly vulnerable to African swine fever. This includes the uncontrolled transportation of pigs, and non-compliance with the conditions of their keeping, and improper disposal of the case, not to mention the registration of farm animals for timely preventive vaccination, ”the press service quotes Tolkachev, who stressed that more explanatory work is needed.
