Cattle slaughter is increasing in Argentina

In June, 1.13 million head of cattle were slaughtered , matching the May figure and 9% more than the previous year. However, the difference in working days between the three months means that, adjusted for this figure, slaughter represents a 17% increase compared to the previous month and a 3% decrease compared to the previous year.

The number of animals sent to slaughterhouses in June was lower than those recorded in 2022 (significantly) and 2023, but higher than those in 2021 and 2024 (also significantly, but the abnormally low number of working days – only 16 – played a role here).

The share of cows amounted to 48%, having decreased by almost two points over the year.

The trend in this share, considered on a 12-month basis, has been slowly but steadily declining over the past year.

Among them, the biggest factor in the decline is cows, while the heifer herd has shown year-on-year growth for the first six months of this year.
