Changes to industry legislation will come into force in 2024

From September 1, 2024 , amendments to the law on beekeeping will come into effect in RUSSIA, which introduce a new article “Ensuring the quality and safety of beekeeping products.” The new law will allow control of the quality of honey, as well as wax and other beekeeping products. Roskoshestvo, in turn, will launch monthly monitoring of honey, samples of which will be taken in stores and on the market. In this way, the government hopes to reduce the percentage of counterfeit products. Also, from September 1, 2024, another law concerning beekeepers will come into force. This law clarifies the time frame within which beekeepers must be informed about the use of pesticides and agrochemicals on agricultural lands. This law was passed to protect bees from the influence of chemicals that can be deadly to insects; now farmers will be required to warn beekeepers 5-10 days before the planned treatment. New rules for rabbit breeders will also be introduced from September 1, 2024. Thus, keeping birds and rabbits in the same building is not allowed. The enterprise must be zoned and have separate areas for quarantine of animals and their treatment. There should also be a manure storage facility and a site for disinfection of manure, a separate place for storing veterinary preparations and disinfectants, feed and bedding material. If the enterprise plans to slaughter rabbits, separate areas should also be provided for this procedure and the primary processing of skins. Requirements for the living conditions of rabbits are also spelled out in the new law, and they affect both large enterprises and farms. According to the new law, which will also come into force on September 1, 2024, only producers of organic products that have passed the appropriate certification will be able to use on the labeling of their products, in addition to the word “organic,” also such words as “biodynamic,” “biological,” “ ecological", "environmentally friendly", "green" or similar in meaning, as well as their abbreviations or designations "eco" and "bio".

The new laws also clarify the procedure for issuing veterinary certificates and importing breeding animals into the country. Labeling of red caviar will also become mandatory in March 2024 - this measure will help in the fight against poaching.
