On Wednesday, December 6, director of the center Andrey Dalnov shared his forecast with the audience of the XV international scientific and practical conference “Pig Breeding-2023”. He noted that for two decades there has been a steady increase in meat consumption in Russia, and the results shown by livestock enterprises in 2023 are encouraging.

The consumption structure has changed: pork has come close to the most popular chicken meat on the domestic market. It is possible that next year it will narrow the gap in the struggle for first place in the diet of the country's residents.

In 2023broiler still occupies the leading position - 32 kilograms per person, but pork consumption has already exceeded 30 kilograms per capita. They are expected to gain at least a kilogram and two kilograms, respectively, next year. Beef takes third place: approximately 13 kilograms per person. Apparently, this figure will be the same in 2024. Cattle meatis followed by niche species: turkey, lamb, duck , rabbit meat, etc.

At the beginning of the last decade, chicken was the main driver of the meat market, but since about 2013, pork and turkey have taken over the baton. Provided there is a favorable epizootic situation in 2024, we will get a stable and diversified market, Andrey Dalnov believes. Manufacturers will fight for the consumer through marketing promotion based on the balance of the nutritional value of the product and organoleptic sensations. The primacy will remain with chicken and pork as the most common sources of animal protein.

Rosselkhozbank analysts suggest that in 2024, meat consumption will be 84% higher than the level of 2019–2020 (45 kilograms per year per capita). This is facilitated by income growth, the development of domestic production and retail trade, and price stabilization.
