Global beef and veal production expected to rise in 2022

According to a USDA report , global beef and veal production will grow by almost 1% in 2022, driven by growth in Australia, Brazil and India. Australian production is expected to rise by 8% as improved pasture conditions have spurred herd recovery.

Beef production will depend on increased supplies of slaughter-ready cattle next year and higher carcass weights due to higher slaughter rates for males. Meanwhile, Brazilian beef production is expected to be supported by an increase in the number of cattle and improved profitability of slaughterhouses. In India, buffalo meat production will continue the recovery that began in 2021 after major supply chain disruptions led to a sharp drop in production throughout 2020.

Global exports are projected to grow by 2% in 2022 on expectations of continued strong global demand, especially from Asia. Australia's exports are expected to pick up as production recovers, especially in the second half of 2022.

Meanwhile, exports from Brazil will be a record as demand in China 's leading market continues to rise. On the contrary, New Zealand's exports will be constrained by a reduction in the supply of cattle. Paraguay will also see a decline in exports as severe weather this year has caused cattle to be sold earlier than planned and reduce availability in 2022. Despite the decline, Paraguay is expected to reach the second-highest total exports on record.
