In 2021, the number of pigs in the region decreased by 22.1%, to 1,125.1 thousand heads.
As the press service of Pskovstat reported, at the end of December 2021, the number of cattle in the Pskov region was 60.5 thousand heads (-7.9%), including 30.2 thousand cows (-8.5%). The number of small cattle (goats and sheep) last year decreased by 9% - to 29.4 thousand.
In the summer and autumn of 2021, the spread of African swine fever among domestic pigs and in the wild boar population caused enormous damage to pig production in the Pskov region. In mid-July, some municipalities introduced a regional emergency regime in connection with the epizootic. A total of 14 ASF outbreaks have been reported in the region. During their liquidation, about 90 thousand pigs were destroyed.
Quarantine at the last infected facilities in the Opochets district was canceled on Monday, January 24, 2022.
