Accelerated decline in livestock numbers in Russia: worst figures in 14 years

The exception was poultry farming, which showed growth, mainly as a recovery from the bird flu epidemic - in agricultural organizations, an increase in livestock by 15 million was recorded, while in private households there was a decrease of 3.6 million. In pig farming, for the first time since 2000, there was a decrease in livestock by 1.6% to 27.8 million individuals. Meanwhile, sheep farming decreased by 5.2%, and cattle showed a record decline - 696.42 thousand heads, which was the worst result in the past 14 years.

The number of cows decreased by 286.83 thousand - the worst indicator since 2013. Over the past two years, the development of cattle in peasant farms has declined. Expert Alexander Korbut noted that the reduction in the number of livestock will lead to a decrease in the need for feed, which, in turn, will affect crop production.
