Rosselkhoznadzor: African swine fever is getting closer to Udmurtia

Keeping it out of the republic allows vigilance in production and verification of imported products.

This was announced on Tuesday, February 8, by Yuri Volkov, Deputy HEAD of the ROSSELKHOZNADZOR Office for the Kirov Region, the Udmurt Republic and the Perm Territory.

“I want to draw your attention to the fact that African swine fever is getting closer and closer to the territory of Udmurtia. It's spreading. On the territory of Udmurtia, thank God, there were no outbreaks of African swine fever, but the import of contaminated products is taking place,” Yuri Volkov said.

For example, at the end of 2021, one of the enterprises of the republic received pork from the Samara region, produced in the Belgorod region. And this product had to be withdrawn and completely destroyed.

“The entrepreneur purchased these products for sale on New Year’s holidays, but thanks to the Mercury system, the department found out in time that the contaminated products were at the enterprise in Udmurtia, so they didn’t go on sale,” Volkov said.

Another example of a timely response - also at the end of 2021, at the weekend fair in Izhevsk, sausages were identified that came from "problem" regions. The sausage was also confiscated and destroyed in time.

Thus, the Rosselkhoznadzor organizes posts together with the Ministry of Internal Affairs in order to prevent the illegal movement of livestock products, and it is also detected during joint raids on places of unauthorized trade. The threat of an outbreak in production, based on the examples of other regions, according to Yuri Volkov, is only negligence.

“All outbreaks in enterprises are due to the negligent attitude of the staff. Elementary violations of the sanitary and protective regime - visits to the enterprise by unauthorized persons, unauthorized vehicles that bypass disinfection barriers. Service personnel carry food with them, which is strictly prohibited,” Yury Volkov called for vigilance.
