Kronoborg LLC maintains the only flock of Oxford Down sheep in RUSSIA, writes the Livestock of Russia magazine. The enterprise plans to obtain the status of a breeding farm for growing these animals, said Vladimir Labinov, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of the Republic of Karelia. To get such a status, you need to increase the number of livestock, he added.
In 2020, Kronoborg brought 129 breeding sheep of this breed from Finland, now there are more than 300 animals in the herd, including 140 lambs. In the next five years, they plan to increase the livestock to 2.5 thousand by absorption crossbreeding.
Sheep breeding is a promising branch of agriculture in Karelia due to natural and climatic conditions. In particular, the proximity of St. Petersburg significantly expands sales markets.
