The epidemic resulted in the destruction of 5,500 heads of cattle , which were insured under the state livestock support program. This situation was the first such case of brucellosis among farm animals in the region in the last three decades. Brucellosis , caused by bacteria of the genus Brucella, leads to serious consequences, such as mass abortions and decreased productivity in cattle.
Given the risk to humans, infection can be acquired through contact with sick animals or consumption of insufficiently cooked food. From March 1, 2025, new veterinary regulations aimed at preventing the spread of brucellosis will come into effect in RUSSIA, which will clarify the procedure for serological testing.
