A strategic breeding enterprise with stud bulls in the Republic of Karelia has carried out a large-scale modernization

With the support of the Government of the Republic of Karelia, the breeding enterprise improved its infrastructure by purchasing modern equipment for packaging and barcoding the semen of stud bulls. A laboratory for selection control of MILK quality was also created, and analyzers were purchased to measure the quality and safety indicators of milk.

Last year, modern refrigeration equipment was installed, including a unique freezer with a directed horizontal flow of nitrogen gas, which allows for quick and efficient freezing of seed material. Thanks to these improvements, the breeding enterprise was able to enter the Russian market and begin supplying its products to the Yaroslavl, Moscow, Vologda, Lipetsk and Kirov regions. After the specialists’ trip to the professional development conference, it was possible to further expand the sales market. And already in October 2023, the first batch of semen was sent to the Leningrad region.

During 2023, 43,900 doses of semen from 16 sires were frozen, and currently there are over 240 thousand doses from 56 bulls in the storage facility of the breeding enterprise.

The acquisition of new cryogenic equipment is another achievement of the breeding enterprise. This will reduce the costs of the enterprise and improve the safety of working conditions for personnel, as well as minimize risks during the storage of biomaterial.

At the moment, the enterprise is carrying out preliminary measures to prepare the premises for the installation of new equipment, which is planned to be installed by June 2024 .

The main tasks for 2024 are to increase the number of sires, complete the modernization of the semen storage system and expand sales markets. Management also plans to carry out work to confirm the breeding status of the enterprise at the beginning of 2025.
