USDA FOB plant pork rose $1.12 in Friday's intraday report to $101.99 per hundredweight. Loin and ribs fell, while brisket rose $7.05. Federally inspected hog slaughter for the week was estimated at 2.54 million HEAD, up 2,000 head from last week and 9,726 head from the same week last year.
The USDA December Hogs and Pig Report appears to have overestimated the hog population. Weekly hog slaughter levels continue to remain below levels seen at this time a year ago. The short-term technical position for April lean hogs remains entirely positive, suggesting further price gains in the near term.
Probable price ranges for next week:
April Lean Pork Futures $91.00 to $ 98.00
March Soybean Meal Futures - $290.00 to $310.00
March Corn Futures - $4.80 to $5.00
