
Weekly CFTC data showed hog traders covered long positions and added to short positions during the week ending December 5th. As a result, funds received a stronger contract of 3.4 thousand, falling short of 17,963.
The December WASDE report increased its forecast for fourth-quarter 2023 pork production by 25 million pounds to 7.065 billion for the full year by 27.242 billion pounds. UNCH's forecast for 2024 remained at £27.730 billion.
The national pork carcass price was up 17 cents Thursday afternoon at $83.37. According to the USDA 's weekly pork production report , pork production was 575.8 million pounds, the same as last week and up 3.1% from the same week last year. Annual total output was 25.581 billion pounds, up 0.5% from last year's pace. Pig slaughter for the week amounted to 2.687 million head, which is 0.3% less than last week, but 4.2% more than the same week last year. The annual figure remains 1.6% higher than last year with a head count of 120.02 million.
