US Hog Market Review Week 27, July 7, 2025

Lower hog and cash pork prices have weighed on hog futures this week, and the market has "officially set a seasonal high," said Rich Nelson, chief strategist at Allendale Inc.

CME August lean pork futures fell 1,800 cents to 106,100 cents a pound after hitting their lowest since June 3. The heavily traded contract is down 3.8% for the week, its second straight weekly decline.

Hog carcass prices fell for a seventh straight session, down $1.25 in Thursday morning's update to $109.50 a hundredweight, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA).

The weekly EXPORT sales report showed that only 27,130 tonnes of pork were sold in the week ending June 26, a 3-week low. Mexico was the largest buyer with 15,200 tonnes, of which 4,300 tonnes were sold to Japan. Shipments were counted at a 4-week low of 30,068 tonnes. The top destination was Mexico with 12,000 tonnes, of which 4,300 tonnes were sent to CHINA .

USDA FOB plant pork fell another 54 cents to $110.21 Thursday afternoon. Hams and picnic prime pork were the only items to show gains. USDA estimates Thursday's hog slaughter was 407,000 HEAD, bringing the weekly total to 1.821 million head. That's down 66,000 head from last week and up 393,922 head from the same week last year.
