USA: Week 16 Pig Market Review 2023

There were 24,570 non-short contracts on April 18, according to the Commitment of Traders. This is almost unchanged from the previous week, with a marginal OI drop of 142 contracts.

Friday pork futures closed higher at $1.05 after the May contract bounced 42 cents. The national USDA pork carcass value was $80.43 on Friday, up $2.28. The USDA estimates the weekly slaughter of 2.459 million pigs through Saturday. Thus, the annual slaughter rate increased by 1.7% compared to 2022.
