USA: Week 11 Pig Market Review 2023

CME April contracts fell 4.3 cents to 79,450 cents a pound and set their lowest price since October 2021. The nearest contract is down 9% from Friday's closing price. June futures fell to a daily limit of 93.475 cents a pound and reached their lowest price since January 2022. According to exchange operator CME Group, on Friday the daily trading limit was temporarily increased to 7 cents.

The losses were "a complete technical crash," said Dennis Smith, a commodity broker analyst at Archer Financial Services. Traders said fears of declining demand for American ham from Mexico, the main market for American pork, are weighing on the market due to the strength of the US DOLLAR . The Mexican peso has been volatile in recent days, falling about 3% against the US dollar over the past week.
