USA: Cattle market overview for the 2nd week of 2022

Wholesale prices for block beef showed positive dynamics, according to the USDA . The cost of Choice MEAT in the US market rose by $12.49 over the past week, the price of Select beef rose by $12.87. Choice/Select leverage increased to $10.34.
Beef processors' margin rose to $344.40 per HEAD of cattle on Thursday from $323.95 on Wednesday and $225.35 per head a week ago, according to HedgersEdge.com.
Live cattle futures on the CME are rising in price. However, March feedstock futures declined as grain and soybean prices fell. Traders remain concerned that a highly contagious variant of the cornavirus is causing more staff shortages, limiting livestock slaughter.
Hospitalizations due to covid-19 in the United States increased by about 33% and deaths rose by about 40% from a week earlier, the head of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.
