USA: Week 8 Broiler Market Review 2022

Average prices for chicken cutting showed a positive trend, which was based on the increase in prices for wings, legs and drumsticks.

Table egg production forecast for the first quarter has been revised down based on lower-than-expected laying numbers. Consequently, the forecast for wholesale prices for eggs in the first quarter has been revised upwards. Already, the price of an egg in the US exceeds that of ground beef.

BLOOMBERG notes a global avian flu outbreak that has wiped out about 100 million birds and high production costs pushed the price of 12 eggs to a record $4.82 in January from less than $2 a year earlier. Meanwhile, the price of one pound of ground beef has fallen to $4.64 from a peak of $5.12 last August.
