The USDA reports a significant increase in avian influenza cases, affecting millions of birds. Some 5.78 million birds have been affected this month, a significant increase from the 1.37 million reported last month. States hardest hit by the recent outbreak over the past 30 days include Minnesota, Iowa, Ohio and Oregon. In Iowa, the number of cases this year is three times higher than in October, November and December of the previous year, according to the Iowa Capital Dispatch. In terms of international trade, during the previous outbreak, China's customs administration imposed restrictions on poultry shipments from many US states. However, CHINA recently lifted restrictions on poultry imports from select states, including Kentucky, Oklahoma, Delaware, North Carolina, Maine, Maryland and Texas, according to a USDA report released earlier this month . However, as of November 15, shipment bans from 31 states are still in effect.
