USA: Week 48 Broiler Market Review 2021

Average broiler prices in the US market as of December 3, 2021 showed a positive trend. Overall, the price tag rose by 4.5% over the week, resulting in a 2.1% decline in broiler sales.

The average cost of broilers in November 2021 was 105.47 cents/lb (+2.4% m/m, +37.3% y/y), with total sales of around 43,948 thousand pounds (+5.3% m/m) , +26% per year).

In October, the number of broilers destined for broodstock jumped 6% from last year. This follows four of the last five months that saw growth from last year. The total number is up 3 million birds compared to last year. However, the performance of broiler-type layers is still below the five-year average.

The Livestock Marketing Information Center (LMIC) estimates that broiler production will increase by 3% in 2022 compared to 2021, but so far based on data from hatcheries supplying stock, the estimate may be too low if improvements in laying ability are seen . it appears that the broiler sector will have the opportunity to increase production by more than 3% if it is profitable in 2022. However, much of this profitability will depend on future feed costs.

Now chicken is still well positioned in the animal protein market due to the high prices of competing meats, as well as due to the increase in broiler production.
