Average prices for chicken cutting showed positive dynamics against the backdrop of rising prices for all positions, except for breast, wing and fillet.
The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) said it will spend $502 million to ensure a rapid response to any future cases of avian flu.
Bird flu has killed 58.7 million chickens, turkeys and other birds in 47 states since January 2022 , a record high in the US, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on June 7.
There have been no new infections in commercial poultry flocks since April 19, 2023, and no new infections in households since May 18, 2023, according to the USDA.
The new funding will allow the USDA's Animal and Plant HEALTH Inspection Service (APHIS) to prepare for the possibility of future outbreaks as the virus continues to spread to other countries, the USDA said. The agency has already spent $793 million on outbreak response, including disposal of dead birds, quarantines and surveillance.
REUTERS reported in April that the USDA was also testing vaccines against avian flu.
