
Average broiler prices in the US market continue to decline. For the week, the price tag lost 0.74%, sales for the week decreased by 4.2%.
At the end of May 2022, the cost of broilers in the US market reached 169.97 cents/lb, which is 61% higher than in the same period in 2021. May sales reached 40,384 thousand pounds, down 5.4% from a year ago.
The USDA Animal and Plant HEALTH Inspection Service (APHIS) continues its efforts to contain outbreaks of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the United States. To date, the virus has been confirmed in 35 states and has affected more than 37.9 million poultry. APHIS's response includes working closely with animal health officials in affected states to rapidly identify and eliminate new cases of HPAI. Also yesterday, USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack approved a $400 million transfer from the Commodity Credit Corporation (CCC) to APHIS to directly support efforts to respond to the spread of the virus.
