
African swine fever virus ( ASF ) causes a fatal disease in pigs. it is a large and complex virus , the only member of the family Asfarviridae, genus Asfivirus. The ASF virus has several layers surrounding a dense core containing its DNA genome.
Currently, scientists in several countries are working on creating a vaccine against ASF; Russian veterinary science can also contribute to the fight against this extremely dangerous disease for the pig farming industry. This issue - the development of a Russian vaccine against African swine fever (ASF), which could be used in pig farming and for wild boars - was discussed at an event at the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation under the leadership of Deputy Minister of Agriculture Maxim Uvaidov, who emphasized the importance of this domestic development.
The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of HEALTH of the Russian Federation Andrei Plutnitsky, DIRECTOR of the Federal State Budgetary Institution VNITIBP Alexey Zaberezhny, Director of the Federal State Budgetary Institution NICEM named after. N.F. Gamaleya" Alexander Ginzburg, as well as representatives of ROSSELKHOZNADZOR and leading scientific organizations of the country.
Another important topic of the meeting was zoonotic diseases, which are transmitted between animal species and humans.
Based on the results of the event, it was decided to conclude cooperation agreements between scientific organizations of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture, the Russian Ministry of Health and Rosselkhoznadzor in the field of prevention of diseases common in both humans and animals.
