At an agricultural forum in the Volgograd region, it was noted that animal productivity has not increased in the last ten years, and the current target for 2027 requires significant progress. Unlike the American practice, where farmers are assessed for MILK quality based on fat and protein content, the Russian system still does not allow for such calculations to be carried out effectively.
Genetic research is necessary to assess the HEALTH, productivity and origin of animals, but the high cost of genotyping often deters farms. Existing subsidies can compensate up to 70% of the costs. An important step in the development of pedigree cattle breeding will also be to take into account the genetic diversity and adaptive characteristics of local breeds.
