The primary reason for this decline is record-high import tariffs , which reached 172%. Despite a temporary tariff reduction for 90 days following the joint announcement of May 14, the current rate remains at 57%, which undermines the competitiveness of American MEAT in the Chinese market.

The decline in demand for American pork in CHINA is also linked to changing consumer preferences and increased interest in local products.
