Slovenia has reported a case of H5N1 avian influenza. The outbreak occurred at a small poultry farm.

Slovenia reported on Monday an outbreak of highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza at a small poultry farm in the country's east, the STA news agency reported, citing the Food Safety, Veterinary and Plant Protection Agency.

On Sunday, a veterinarian reported an increase in poultry mortality at a farm in Slovenska Bystrica. Authorities said all necessary measures had been taken in the affected areas and urged farmers to immediately report any new suspected cases, Reuters reported.

Since the beginning of December, many cases of H5N1 avian influenza have been reported in Europe.
