The Saratov region is seeing a slight decline in the livestock sector

In the Saratov region, at the end of 2021, there is a slight decline in the livestock sector. Statistical data in the agricultural sector for the last year was published by Saratovstat.

“At the end of December 2021, the number of cattle in farms of all categories, according to calculations, amounted to 432.4 thousand heads (0.9% less compared to the same date of the previous year), of which 194.6 thousand cows (by 0.3% less), the number of pigs - 260.6 thousand (3.5% less), sheep and goats - 554.9 thousand (0.5% less), poultry - 5995.6 thousand heads (at the level the previous year),” the statisticians noted.

At the same time, most of the livestock is accounted for by households, and this share has increased in 2021. Residents keep 63% of the livestock of cattle, 42.6% - pigs, 68% - sheep and goats (at the end of December 2020, respectively - 62.4%, 41.1% and 67.6%).

In agricultural organizations at the end of December 2021, the decline is more noticeable. The number of cattle decreased by 4.7% compared to the same date in 2020, cows - by 2%, pigs - by 5%, sheep and goats - by 10.6%, but the number of poultry increased by 1.3%.

Last year, farms of all categories, according to calculations, produced livestock and poultry for slaughter in live weight 168.6 thousand tons (including cattle - 71.9 thousand tons, pigs - 61.7 thousand tons, sheep and goats - 15.1 thousand tons, poultry - 19.2 thousand tons). MILK production amounted to 755 thousand tons, eggs - 955.5 million pieces.

“In 2021, according to calculations, in farms of all categories in the structure of livestock and poultry production for slaughter (in live weight), there was an increase in the share of production of cattle, pigs, sheep and goats compared to 2020,” the statisticians note.

If we take separately the production of livestock and poultry for slaughter only in agricultural organizations, then in January-December 2021 it fell by 7.4% compared to 2020. Moreover, the production of cattle MEAT increased by 8.8%, sheep and goats - by 1.5%, while the production of pork fell by 1.2%, and poultry meat - immediately by 25.9%. The sharp decline continues for the second year in a row. In 2020, compared to 2019, poultry meat production fell by 29.6%.

Recall that the Saratov region "lost meat poultry" exactly a year ago admitted Governor Valery Radaev, speaking at the collegium of the Ministry of Agriculture of the region. “We do not have the potential that practically provided the Saratov region with birds. We could produce 30 thousand tons of poultry meat, today it is not there, ”the HEAD of the region said then.
