The Saratov laboratory of the Federal State Budgetary Institution "ARRIAH" identified cases of low immunity against the Newcastle disease virus

In total, since the beginning of 2024 , the Saratov laboratory has carried out 819 studies using the RTGA method for the presence of antibodies to the Newcastle disease virus in birds, of which 24 samples showed an unacceptably low level of post-vaccination antibodies, indicating ineffective vaccination .

Newcastle disease , also known as fowl pseudoplague, is a highly contagious viral infection that affects the central NERVOUS SYSTEM and internal organs of birds, causing high mortality rates among birds. it is a dangerous disease that can cause great economic damage.

The source of the virus is a sick bird; infection occurs through contact with a sick bird, as well as through contaminated water. The infection spreads especially quickly through airborne droplets or airborne dust. Synanthropic birds, such as crows, jackdaws, pigeons and others, may pose a particular threat because the disease may not manifest clinically in them.

Complete elimination of the virus in nature is impossible, and the risk of introducing infectious diseases remains constant. The most effective way to protect the HEALTH of livestock is systemic preventive immunization with a vaccine. The effectiveness of prevention must be checked using laboratory tests to determine the strength of the immune system.

Customers whose birds show low levels of post-vaccination antibodies are advised to take immediate corrective action to ensure the health of their flock is protected. The research results were transferred to the customer and entered into the Vesta information system for recording laboratory research results.

For reference:

In October 2023, a new drug produced by the Federal Center for Animal Health Protection, subordinate to ROSSELKHOZNADZOR, was registered - a dry live vaccine against Newcastle disease from the strain "ARRIAH NB-En".

The vaccine is intended for the prevention of Newcastle disease in breeding and commercial farms of various types of cultivation that are disadvantaged and threatened by this disease. The vaccine is especially effective against field isolates of the above genotype VII L virus.

The vaccine is produced from the extraembryonic fluid of SPF embryos of chickens infected with the attenuated Newcastle disease virus strain “ARRIAH Nb-En”, which has pneumo-enterotropic tropism. Dosage form - lyophilisate for the preparation of a suspension for oral, intranasal (ocular) use and spray method.
