From the beginning of the year to February 21, 2023, six foci of African swine fever (ASF) were recorded in RUSSIA, ROSSELKHOZNADZOR reports. Most of the outbreaks were recorded among wild pigs: three in the Arkhangelsk region, one each in the Kursk region and Primorsky Krai. The only outbreak of ASF among domestic pigs, according to Rosselkhoznadzor , was found in the Samara region.
According to the agency, in 2022, 143 outbreaks of ASF were recorded in Russia.
At the same time, the ASF situation in countries neighboring Russia was significantly worse in 2022 and remains unfavorable this year. In four countries adjacent to Russia, more than 530 outbreaks of ASF were recorded as of mid-February, some were located close to the border - the closest outbreak was recorded 700 meters from Russia. The main part of the infections occurs in wild boars, which are natural carriers of African swine fever.
