Managers of Belokalitvinskaya Poultry Farm Convicted of Fraud

The Kirovsky District Court of Rostov-on-Don issued an indictment against Alexei Baklanov, General Director of Belokalitvinskaya Poultry Farm JSC, and Andrei Romensky, his deputy, convicted of embezzling about 72 million rubles.

Baklanov was sentenced to three years in prison, Romensky to two and a half. Both terms are conditional, because during the investigation, the accomplices returned the embezzled funds to the Rosselkhozbank-Insurance company. The Rostov Regional Court considered the appeal and upheld the decision of the court of first instance.

The case of fraud and embezzlement on an especially large scale under part 4 of article 159.5 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (fraud in the field of insurance) was initiated and investigated by the department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) in the Rostov Region.

According to the materials of the investigation, the money was stolen three years ago. The defendants received compensation for their losses by providing Rosselkhozbank-Insurance with false information about the occurrence of an epizootic outbreak and the destruction of livestock at the Belokalitvinskaya poultry farm. Subsequently, Rospotrebnadzor established that multiple violations of veterinary legislation were the cause of the outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza.
