For many years now, beef has occupied a confident third place in terms of consumption in the Russian “meat basket,” second only to pork and chicken. In the last 5 years, there have been 13-15 kg of beef per person per year, which is up to 18-19% of the total volume of MEAT eaten per year.

Beef production in RUSSIA is stable and has dropped below 1.6 million tons only twice over the past 10 years. Now it is growing at a slow pace, mainly due to large holdings. Among the notable industry projects during the period under review is the launch of full-cycle production at the Zarechnoye Group of Companies with its own genetic center and feed base in the Voronezh region, as well as the largest beef processing plant in Russia, Miratorg Group of Companies, in the Bryansk Region with the ability to replace up to 7% import.

On the shelves of Russian stores you can find beef from more than 10 countries, including fraternal Belarus and friendly countries of South America: Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. Brazil , the world's largest supplier of beef, also ranks first in the Russian market in terms of volume. And the largest increase in supplies was noted by India, another influential player in the global market, noted the RSHB.

“Beef imports now have a supporting role. Thanks to the launch of large-scale production since 2014, Russia has increased its self-sufficiency in this type of meat from 70% to the current 86%,” comments Andrey Dalnov, HEAD of the Center for Industry Expertise of Rosselkhozbank. Against the background of stable consumption, production and imports, exports

show noticeable dynamics . Back in 2014, Russia supplied 2.4 thousand tons of beef abroad; by 2019, this figure gradually increased to 9.5 thousand tons. Since the beginning of the 2020s. The bar of 20.2 thousand tons was exceeded, and at the end of 2023, the Russian Agricultural Bank estimates exports at about 40 thousand tons - this is approximately 17-18% higher than a year earlier. The opening of the Chinese market to Russian beef on January 17, 2020 led to a sharp increase in exports . CHINA is followed by Saudi Arabia and Belarus , and buyers also include Uzbekistan , Vietnam , Kazakhstan , Hong Kong, Armenia and some other countries. The Center for Industry Expertise believes that in the new year China will increase supplies from Russia by another 11%. From 2014 to 2023 Russia has increased its beef exports by 15.7 times, according to calculations by the Russian Agricultural Market. “In the beef market in Russia over the past 10 years, I see a combination of positive trends: it was possible to increase self-sufficiency with a parallel decrease in imports and a significant increase in exports. This demonstrates the efficiency of the industry. Overall in 2024

This year, I predict beef exports from Russia at about 45 thousand tons, which will be 11% higher than the result of 2023,” says Andrey Dalnov.
