There is also a 3.3% reduction in the number of sheep and goats raised on farms of all categories. Now there are 19.9 million sheep and goats in the country, the statistics agency reported.
At the same time, the pig population is growing . As of the end of January 2024, there are 28.7 million heads of these farm animals in the country - 2.6% more than in January 2023.
“The households accounted for 37.6% of the cattle population , 5.7% of the pigs, 45.4% of the sheep and goats,” the department noted.
At the same time, the number of sheep and goats raised by the population has increased over the year, as follows from Rosstat data. Due to this growth, it was possible to partially compensate for the significant reduction in the number of sheep and goats in agricultural organizations. At the end of January, the number of small ruminants in agricultural organizations decreased by 8.3%.
The opposite trend is observed with the pig population. The population is increasingly refusing to breed these animals. In agricultural organizations, on the contrary, the number of pigs is growing - an increase of 3.5% was noted over the year.
