Rosstat: inflation for the week from December 14 to 20 accelerated sharply to 0.32%

In RUSSIA, inflation for the week from December 14 to 20 accelerated sharply to 0.32% from 0.06% from December 7 to 13 and 0.07% from November 30 to December 6, Rosstat said. Since the beginning of the month, inflation by December 20 was 0.44%, since the beginning of the year - 7.98%.

Thus, price growth since the beginning of the year as of December 20 has already exceeded not only the government’s forecast estimate for the whole of 2021 (7.4%), but also the interval forecast of the Bank of Russia for the whole of 2021 (7.4-7.9% ).

The average daily inflation for 20 days in December amounted to 0.022% (for the same period in December 2020 - 0.03%).

According to Rosstat data, annual inflation in the country accelerated to 8.23% on December 20 from 8.11% on December 13 after 8.28% on December 6 and 8.4% at the end of November.

Some acceleration of inflation was expected - weekly inflation data at the end of November and the first two weeks of December were highly volatile - largely due to price hikes for foreign tourism services, explained by the method of their calculation.

From December 14 to 20, the prices of chicken eggs increased significantly - by 1.3%, buckwheat - by 1.1%, butter and pasta - by 1.0%, pasteurized MILK and black tea - by 0.9%, wheat FLOUR - by 0.8%, SUGAR, sterilized milk, rice, vermicelli, chocolate sweets - by 0.7%, pork, sausages, sausages, frozen fish, sour cream, fat cottage cheese - by 0.6%.

Prices for fruits and vegetables increased over the week by 1.5% (a week earlier - by 1.3%), including cabbage - by 4.8%, cucumbers - by 4.2%, tomatoes - by 1.5% , carrots and apples - by 0.8%, onions - by 0.5%, potatoes - by 0.3%.

Dairy products from December 14 to 20 rose in price more than a week earlier. Thus, butter rose in price the most during the week - by 0.96% against 0.82% in the previous week. The growth rate of prices for pasteurized milk rose to 0.89% from 0.77%, for sterilized milk - up to 0.66% from 0.46%, for sour cream - up to 0.62% from 0.37%.

Cottage cheese for the week became more expensive by 0.61% (by 0.37% a week earlier), cheese - by 0.54% (by 0.36%).

Since the beginning of the year, butter has become more expensive by 11.6%, pasteurized milk - by 10.2%, sterilized - by 10.5%, sour cream - by 9.9%, cottage cheese - by 8.6%, cheese - by 7 ,1%.

Vladimir Putin: Russia needs to return to inflation target 

The rise in prices for powdered milk formulas for baby food slowed down somewhat - to 0.04% from 0.05%. Since the beginning of the year, the growth was 4.6%.
