The ROSSELKHOZNADZOR launched the Horriot electronic system, which, by analogy with other systems of the department, will help keep records and control animals, their movements and ongoing veterinary activities. In the message of the Rosselkhoznadzor , representatives of the department explained that from September 1, 2023, the new law No. 221-FZ on marking animals will come into force, and the marking itself will become mandatory from March 1, 2024.
Animal labeling will allow for oversight of veterinary safety, the agency said in a statement. Now, in countries close to RUSSIA, outbreaks of dangerous diseases are regularly occurring, and quarantine zones for animal diseases are being introduced in Russia as well. Thanks to the marking, when moving animals around the country or across the border, it will be possible to instantly track which of them carry the virus with them, and block this route of the spread of the disease in time, experts from Rosselkhoznadzor say. In addition, experts believe that the marking will simplify the recording of livestock and the issuance of veterinary certificates, as well as improve exports, since Russian-made products will inspire more confidence.
Only farm animals are subject to labeling - birds will not be labeled yet, the department noted. At the moment, 2.1 million individual animals and more than 1 million animals are registered in the system through group registration.
