The main topic of discussion was the restriction of transit of live animals from the European Union to Kazakhstan through the territory of RUSSIA. Russia confirmed its refusal to open a transit corridor for import of livestock from the EU to Kazakhstan. Dankvert noted that the lack of response from the EU to the request of ROSSELKHOZNADZOR on the situation with foot-and-mouth disease in Europe hinders the resolution of this issue.
In early 2025, outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease were recorded on farms in Germany, Hungary and Slovakia, creating a risk of the infection spreading to other EU countries. In this regard, Russia has already introduced a ban on the import of all livestock products from the EU, including livestock, in January of this year. Despite the existing disagreements on the transit issue, both sides confirmed their intention to continue cooperation in the field of veterinary and phytosanitary supervision.
