Russian scientists to register Newcastle disease vaccine for broilers in 2023

A new vaccine against Newcastle disease, designed specifically for broilers, has been developed and is planned to be registered this year in a laboratory subordinate to ROSSELKHOZNADZOR. As Natalya Moroz, Deputy DIRECTOR of the FGBI ARRIAH, said at a conference on veterinary medicine in the field of poultry farming, the laboratory for the prevention of bird diseases was developing the vaccine. In the message, Natalia Moroz points out that scientists are now busy collecting documents for registration.

According to the expert, the vaccine will be prepared from a live La Sota strain. The vaccine from this strain has already been registered before, and it is used at enterprises, however, there are difficulties in vaccinating broilers. For these birds, the dosage is ten times less, so a separate vaccine had to be produced for them. The expert expressed hope that the registration of the vaccine will be quick, as it is already in demand on poultry farms. The expert invited Russian poultry farmers to join the testing of the vaccine.

Natalya Moroz also said that her department had tested imported vaccines against Newcastle disease. According to the expert, not a single vaccine has shown one hundred percent protection against the virus - the effectiveness ranged from 40 to 86%.

According to Rosselkhoznadzor experts , Newcastle disease is dangerous primarily for chicken and turkeys, but ducks, pheasants and even humans can also get sick, although in this case the symptoms of the disease will be a slight malaise. For chicken, Newcastle disease is extremely dangerous, the mortality rate is 90-100%, and the treatment and prevention of the spread of the virus will require serious material costs from the enterprise.
