Rosselkhoznadzor discussed with the Azerbaijan Food Security Agency issues of bilateral cooperation in the field of veterinary medicine

One of the key topics of the dialogue was the supply to the Azerbaijani market of a 5-valent sorbed foot-and-mouth disease vaccine containing a new strain of foot-and-mouth disease virus type SAT-2, produced by the Federal State Budgetary Institution ARRIAH. This strain demonstrates more aggressive infectious activity compared to epizootic isolates of other foot-and-mouth disease serotypes. Outbreaks of foot-and-mouth disease type SAT-2 in 2023 were registered in Turkey, Jordan, and Iraq.

The Federal Center for Animal HEALTH, taking into account long-standing active cooperation in the supply of vaccines to the Republic of Azerbaijan, is ready to promptly EXPORT the anti-foot and mouth drug to foreign partners. In the near future, the Center’s specialists will send a dossier to AQTA for registration of the vaccine in Azerbaijan.

During the negotiations, the parties discussed the mechanism of joint activities for the purpose of oral vaccination of wild animals against rabies. Representatives of the competent authorities of the two countries will draw up a preliminary plan, which will also include training of Azerbaijani specialists, rabies diagnostics and further supervisory activities in border areas. These actions will be carried out in agreement with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

In addition, during the meeting, AQTA employees raised the issue of importing only identified farm animals from RUSSIA to Azerbaijan . To ensure mandatory compliance with the requirements of the importing country, ROSSELKHOZNADZOR requested standards from its colleagues that presuppose the technical parameters of livestock identification means.

In conclusion, the parties agreed on the need for the rapid integration of information systems in the field of veterinary medicine. Electronic document management will help minimize veterinary risks during mutual trade in livestock products and facilitate the work of honest businesses.
