Rosptitsesoyuz: import of chicken eggs will not affect the price situation

According to the General DIRECTOR of the Russian Poultry Union Galina Bobyleva, today the permissible volume of 1.2 billion pieces of table eggs supplied from abroad on preferential terms is insignificant for a radical impact on pricing. She recalled that until recently, the annual production of chicken eggs in RUSSIA reached 45 billion per year.

Members of the industry association believe that duty-free import of eggs has more of a psychological effect than an economic one. In addition, they do not believe that importers are able to meet the six-month deadline allotted to them.

So far, all attempts to limit trade markups on eggs remain futile, noted Galina Bobyleva. According to the Russian Poultry Union, purchase prices for eggs from Azerbaijan and Turkey are not lower than for similar products from Russian producers. On average, they range from the same 110–125 rubles per dozen, which is quite adequate from the point of view of poultry farmers. Selling prices under long-term contracts with retail chains are 95–105 rubles per dozen. The retailer covers the difference through its own expenses and, quite logically, mark-ups.

Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Agrarian Issues Vladimir Kashin agreed that purchase prices for imported eggs cannot be lower than for domestic eggs, at least due to additional logistics costs. He considers it appropriate to legislatively limit the trade margin on socially significant goods to a maximum of 10%. The State Duma introduced a corresponding bill for consideration a year and a half ago.
